This body of work is part of the project I was doing in NY during spring and summer of 2012. I was one of the 4 Magnum Fellows in Magnum Foundation and University of New York (NYU). My subject was Electronic Addiction and for such a matter I chose to shoot with iPhone instead of my Canon Mark III. It is funny that many of “Real” photographers of our time were against my camera choices, but today half of them practicing Instagram and sending their images from all around the world with their cell phones.
With all due respect to those frontiers; my argument was “medium is not important, the importance is in the message it self” and I think I wasn’t that wrong. I have tried to engage the same element as I was going after. on the other hand i have to say, Yes they were right I had so much limitation to control the focus, depth of field, light and ….
I was trying to expose the drug addiction through point of view of the needle. But it was a strange approach and I chose it because I always go for the harsh experience and odd path ways. there were many limitations, But then again I recall the famous quote from Bruce Lee “Don’t get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
